my oil reservoir is being emptied on the ground through the overflow tube. tubes are free of clogs. where next? or is there just too much oil in the system?

If Nortons are like most other English bikes they have a habit of wet sumping ie the oil drains out of the oil tank into the sump. When this happens after long periods of no use the natural inclination is to top up the oil tank when next you take it out. This means that there could be way to much oil in the system and it will get pumped out. Drain all the oil - crankcase sump ,oil tank etc,refill the tank and start her up.If it still happens I am out of ideas!
If it cures the problem think about fitting an anti drain valve. There is a lot of debate about these on various forums but ultimately it will be your choice.
